The Challenges And Triumphs Of Single-handedly Sorting Lambs!
In this heartfelt UA-cam video, we share a bittersweet day on our farm as we mourn the loss of Buddy, our beloved barn cat. As we embark on our sheep farming vlog, sadness fills the air. With Arnie occupied in the fields, I find solace in caring for our sheep alone. The therapeutic cuddles with the lambs offer brief respite, but the key to overcoming our loss is to stay busy. Therefore, I take on the challenge of separating the Dorset ewe lambs and ram lambs. Setting up the sorting chute and catch pens, I carefully move them to the next barn for sorting. Despite doubts about completing the task single-handedly, I persevere because where there's a will, there's a way. Once the lambs find their places, it's time to merge the Dorset ewe lambs with the Suffolk ewe lambs for grazing together. Don't miss the end of the video, where you can witness the reaction of the newly merged ewe lambs.
We love you Buddy!

    Good morning Arnie and Lynn. Oh my gosh. Buddy passed away. Blessings to that little soul. He will be missed. Cuddles from the lambs. Medicine for the heart. I tell you Peggy looks like a happy lamb. I spotted Little Mister getting into the video. Ben has really honed his skills. Max. Now he is 100 percent mischievous boy 😂😂😂😂. Great job Lynn. Wow. You are woman. Such a big job done. I think you need a medal. Opening up the barn created a playground they felt the need to use. Just like kids. Now one thing for sure Lynn. Pushing sheep is the hardest skill for a dog to learn. They naturally want to bring them back to you and Arnie where you are lying in wait ready to pounce on the sheep, clamping your teeth over their muzzles to suffocate them. That’s how everyone gets fed, no? Why would they want to push the sheep away so that everyone starves? It makes no sense. Obviously Max and Ben love their sheep but the herding parts of their brains-at least not Max’s-haven’t caught on yet. Pushing sheep is often a skill that needs to be drilled separately. Or so I’ve heard.

      A lot of cats have been through Ewetopia Farms, including the neighbour’s cats. Lynn pays to have the females spayed, which is a huge expense. It cuts down on the number of home-grown litters but does nothing to prevent city/suburban folk dropping off their unwanted kittens (like Alexander and his littermates). Not only is it very expensive it’s a hassle catching feral cats. Lynn doesn’t bother fixing the tomcats. As long as the females are spayed it’s an unnecessary expense. A bigger, more muscular barncat survives winters better. He’ll also catch rats better, which are big and mean.

      @@EwetopiaFarms bummer, because it would be nice to get 2 birds with one stone for you. Like if it couldn't feed sheep at least it could feed itself and save you hassle and cost of having to bake it and move it. We have a modified riding lawnmower that sometimes we mow down the field in the fall and let it sit over winter. It has 2 gator blades that have been laser cut that sit together to make an x shape and it leaves nothing but small particles of grass which break down and help keep moisture in the field. I got tired of burning the field in the spring.

    Hi, Lynn. Moron is a good-looking ram, for sure. And if he really is a son of Hilton, you know he has at least one R and has a decent shot at being RR. I'm just not wild about the fact he's a triplet. I probably mentioned it before, but back in 1970, my aunt and uncle purchased a triplet ram for stud. They kept back a bunch of his daughters. Those daughters turned out to be MAJOR triplet machines. But you haven't noticed anything with Gladiator's daughters being triplet machines, so perhaps my aunt and uncle's experience was just a fluke. It's such a shame about the hay. (Meant to say something about that yesterday.) What about the neighbor who has cattle? Perhaps he'd be willing to take it off your hands at a significantly reduced price? (Please forgive me if that's a dumb question.)

    • @EwetopiaFarms
      @EwetopiaFarms 18 годин тому

      Yes, we haven't had those triplet issues. I would notice if it was a problem because you know how I feel about triplets!😁 We gave some hay away. We baled up that rained on new seeding alfalfa mix and went to all the farmers in the neighborhood and offered already cut and baled hay for free. No takers!😌 101 bakes are sitting in the bush now😪

We knew we weren't supposed to do it, but I was a bit of a rebel, so I did my share of hitchhiking. It all ended the day I took a ride from a van full of guys. They asked me where I was headed when I got in, and my response was "Heart's Desire" ! I'm glad you thought it was a fun day! I actually had a fun day making it. Not all days are "fun" but despite all the set backs we've been having this year with a lot of days leaving us feeling quite depressed, this day we were feeling better for some reason and I think it may have showed. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

    That was a beautiful ending to the video! Perfect with the lovely music! The sky from the hay field looked more like a" hurry up and get the hay put up" sky.😉 The ram lamb is too precious for his name.😂😆 He has those beautiful Suffolk eyes, such expressive eyes! Thanks for a great video and stay safe!!🙏❤

      Yes, he does, but he was acting like a Moron that day, and since it was an M year, it stuck!😆😅😅

    What was the bit about 94 down, 1100 to go? I think it flew over my head. Am I to understand that you didn’t lose that hay after all??!! How did Moron get his name?

    • @EwetopiaFarms
      @EwetopiaFarms День тому

      94 bales made. The hay on the ground did have to get destroyed which turned out to be 101 bales We need approximately 1100 bale. So, 94 down, 1100 to go 😁 Moron is just a funny, bossy, silly ram!🥰
